How-Get-Back-Gym

A few months ago, I took a noise dive, on a personal note, to which it took me out of the gym for about 4 months. I know it sounds so easy just to “get back to the gym” but in all honesty, it’s not, BUT once you get back and get those endorphins into your brain and body, something just clicks! I have not made it a secret that I have been battling depression, stemming from a back injury in 2011 so it made going to the gym a few months ago a distant thought. Over the course of the last few months, I made some significant changes in my life that not only made me better, but my relationship in my marriage and with my family improved as well and now I am starting to branch outside my four walls to take my life BACK! Depression is a nasty little bugger that can take over your life if you allow it and for some families, they lose their loved ones to it. TODAY I made it first on my list and I FINALLY got back to it, I hit it hard for which tomorrow, my body will not be happy, but it felt so good, those endorphins came back and I welcomed all of it. Getting back to the gym after being gone for so long is something that you need to take slow.  Now I know I just said I hit it hard, doing my arms, however having had an amazing trainer in Los Angeles, he taught me a lot of fundamental exercises to which I just incorporated back into my workout. BUT, for you ladies that have not been back to the gym in some time, do 30 minutes at a time, low impact exercises 5 times a week and build back your endurance, I would also suggest to get with a trainer. I know you think trainers are too much money, or your intimidated by them, but I am here to tell you that they are amazing to have in your health arsenal. Do your research, word of mouth always works and get with one. There is a saying I have often heard, “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”, but nothing tastes better as being healthy feels in my book! Going to the gym was just one step in my world of recovery with depression, but being healthy mind, body and soul are your trinity of life. When going back to the gym, take it slow, don’t over do it and don’t be afraid to voice your concerns to your trainer, that’s what they are there for and lastly, stay focused, put yourself first!
