I bet most of you have never heard of this beauty regiment, oil pulling?  Its an ancient Ayurvedic remedy used for oral health and detoxification.  It is the use of organic oils to help pull out from the mouth, teeth, gums and throat.I It helps extract bacteria, fungus and organisms that can cause bad breath and gingivitis.  Now I have always had very good dental care so these issues have never been a problem for me, but I as I did further research I found in addition to dental hygiene, there were other health benefits as well.  So I though I would give it a shot!

So how do you oil pull?  Every morning, when you wake up, before you brush your teeth, you take a tablespoon of oil, (I prefer to use coconut oil because it tastes much better) put in your mouth and swish, slowly for 20 minutes, allowing the oil to melt and cover everywhere in your mouth.  After 20 minutes, spit into a bag or cup but DO NOT pour down your sink drain as the oil will harden and cause plumbing issues later.  You DO NOT swallow the oil as it has bacteria that you do not want in your body.  If you can stand to do this for a week you will see results.  In my case, my results were I started to get headaches in the morning and my sinus’ felt more congested which is common when your body is detoxing, You generally will feel worse before you feel better, as lately my body is need of a detox. My mouth felt very clean, even after I brushed and flossed my teeth.  I would try this for 1 week to see how it works for you.  Note, everyone’s experience is different so my experience may not be the same as yours.  Oil pulling is believed to help remove the bad bacteria from your body that is not allowing your body to flourish properly.  The oils help with the body’s lymphatic system in your body to help produce a healthy environment for good bacterias that your body needs.  I will keep doing this once a month to continue on the path of a healthy, holistic life.  As always anytime you start any type of detox program, even if it is a holistic approach, always consult with your physician.  Happy oil pulling!
